Letter sounds and vocabulary
Phonics awareness and blending readiness build a foundation for reading, alongside a growing vocabulary.
KABIRATHE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLAdmissionsLKG · 4+ YEARS
LKG is where exploration begins to turn into understanding. Children start recognising letters and sounds, working with numbers, and speaking in fuller sentences — all while the joy of discovery stays firmly in place.
ABOUT THIS STAGE
By four, most children can follow simple instructions, sit with a task for longer, and are genuinely curious about letters, numbers and how things work. LKG introduces gentle structure alongside play — enough to build real academic readiness, without rushing childhood.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL BEGIN TO DEVELOP
Phonics awareness and blending readiness build a foundation for reading, alongside a growing vocabulary.
Number concepts, patterns and simple logical activities are introduced through structured, hands-on tasks.
Pre-writing practice, independent attempts and fuller sentences build both confidence and communication.
HOW LEARNING HAPPENS
Phonics and number activities are introduced through games, songs and hands-on materials — not repetition drills. Children are encouraged to attempt things independently, with a teacher close by to guide, not correct.
EXPERIENCES AT THIS STAGE
Letter sounds introduced through songs and games, laying the groundwork for reading readiness.
Counting, patterns and simple logical tasks that build number sense and early problem-solving.
Problem-solving and imaginative play in equal measure, building reasoning alongside creativity.
Guided art and craft activities with a clear beginning and end, building focus and sequencing.
Learning to write your own name is a milestone. So is learning to wait your turn to show someone. LKG treats both as part of growing up.
MOVING FORWARD
As phonics and number sense grow stronger, children are ready for UKG — the final step before primary school.
